I started something last year for a young boy in our church and his birthday is in two weeks and he asked me to do it again this year.
I will tell you what happened last year. Malachi is only 3 at this time and had seen me metal detecting and I thrilled him to no end and i had actually detected his yard and found a hot wheels car and gave it to him. For his party I went out and bought a half dozen hot wheel cars and planted them all over his yard. As his party starts he and his little friends gather around and i explain this very basic bounty hunter I keep for kids and I gave it to Malachi and let him go with a plastic shovel. I directed him around and he unearthed all the cars and guys if you could have seen the look on this little boys face as he found these cars it would have warmed the coldest of hearts. Well his friends wanted in on this action so I quickly kicked holes and threw quarters and dimes in the ground with the help of parents without the kids seeing and let each have a turn and this went on a half hour and made so many kids happy. You see the games kids play at parties and they're ok but something like this totally blew their little minds and all the parents were so happy to see the joy it brought their kids.
Well this year the plan is to buy about 3 dozen cars and bury them along with some quarters. I plan on placing a silver half dollar in the area for the birthday boy and let them take a F2 I grabbed from a sale on the forum, the other kids will have turns do everyone will get something. I'm hoping that by doing this it will encourage these kids to get out and do something outside instead of video games and computers. Plus I like to see the smiles on their faces. I'm going to record a little bit of it for his parents but I will share it with you guys as well.
