Found this in an old cabinet of my parent's. Was originally red and black but a tiny bit of sanding rubbed it down to this pinkish. I can provide any additional information.

If it doesn't have a small hole in each end I'd say it was a rotten egg.

Granny seeded her chicken nests with fake eggs to encourage the hens to lay.

In case a couple didn't catch it, it's a solid stone egg, wanted help identifying what rock/mineral it's made out of.

I would say carved from Rhodonite

Welcome to the show.

So you found something (maybe of value) and then you took sand paper to it?

Do you work in Gitmo

And what do you mean by "sanding" ? ? ? and why did you do that ? ? ?

I sanded it because it was covered in a peeling layer of red film. Not opaque, and the stuff was bubbling off. Not worth anything in that condition. Thanks so far to the guy who suggested Soapstone egg or rhodonite.

It is soapstone... made in Africa IMO.

The stuff you "sanded" off is / was whatever "protective" coating they shellacked on or sprayed onto it.

Not an egg now... its your new pet rock...

You better love it and squeeze it... and name it George. :P

Sorry mate, it's still an egg. Maybe I'll put on a new coat myself. Thanks for the soapstone suggestion.

If you got the time, lots and lots of time, put it in an incubator.
