I thought it was interesting when I found the first silver dime with a number written on it - then over the course of 2 months I found 2 more silver dimes with more numbers. Last night I found the penny. Please tell us your story.................

I found a dime in the same ink on a dime that had a 50

Last week I found a 40% that was marked. So, I wonder if someone was coin searching in the 1960s for only 90% and threw back the 40% (doubt it, but you never know). I just shake my head in wonder. :dontknow:

Hmm... my wild guess is that they were prizes for a kids' game, maybe a "planted" metal detecting event? :dontknow:

I agree with Moneypenny. Probably used as tokens to be redeemed for prizes. Possibly some were not found until after the hunt and since marked were just cashed in. My club uses well worn silver dimes painted red. This way high-end detector can't tell a prize token from a planted silver dime.
