I think this is bone, I can't really imagine what else it could be. Does anyone else have bone beads to compare? I understand that different parts of the country have different styles and techniques. So how to dill that hole anyway? It isn't ceramic. I have a lot of experience with all kinds of clay as an artist... especially the native clay where I found this. Any ideas?

at first it sure looked like a bone bead
second image says to me that the hole was not drilled but that don't it ain't a bead

so how was the hole made?

Is the hole all the way through? It kind of looks like it's ivory, or the very tip of an elk antler.

I would go with antler tip on that one for sure.

that makes a lot more sense! Got any examples?

All my beads are either glass, stone, bone or pipestone. No antler beads, I do have a pressure flaking tool made from a burr off of an antler though.

That is a Deer Antler Bead. I have one almost identical to it, but unfortunately my computer fried and I don't have any pics here on my wifes computer. The hole in mine was definitely drilled but I can't say for sure on yours without closer inspection.

how were such small holes made?...I have a couple beads with tiny holes like this.
