I found this in Northwest Alabama in Bluewater Creek. After cleaning it I noticed it looked like both bone and rock. Im sure it most be a tool or weapon and very old. Any ideas as how to age age this piece or comments as to what time period it was used? Its 5 inches long, 1 inch thick in the large end and 3/8 in the point. One side (the side that was up on the creek) appears to be stone, while the other side has a bone look. DSC05205.webpDSC05209.webpDSC05206.webpDSC05208.webp

:hello: Welcome!

I do not believe your item is an artifact. But do not give up on your search.

agree also. It resembles the scapula of a calf

Wow, thought sure this was something that had been worked. There are scratched lines in the concave bone side as well as what appears to be a thumb hold indention on the end. But Im no expert. Thanks for the comments.

you have to think..."what would it have been used for"....Native peoples were very skilled and most the things they made had obvious uses, and were undeniably tools... By and large if you find the real deal, you don't have to even ask...
