Hello!

I bought this last weekend at a garage sale in Portland Oregon. The guy only wanted $3 for it, I figured that was an OK deal.

it is marked "VANDEVER STERLING", and there is a "G" lightly engraved below the sterling mark. What is this thing? I assume it is a book mark, but I don't know!

It weights 6.1 grams. It's a little over 100 mm long and about 11 mm wide.

Yes, I believe it is a bookmark, and that it was made by Nellie Vandever, a Pueblo silversmith.

There was one on etsy.com, but it sold so not all the information is still available. But it shows it as being bent on the end where the turquoise is at a 90 degree angle. And yours looks like it may have been straightened? 3 bucks is a good deal no matter what.

It's true there sure are a bunch of them Vandevers'. This link from WorthPoint references a guide they have on the marks, and from what I saw on eBay it seemed the others hade more elaborate marks/signatures, along with fancier pieces. But anyway the mark on this one does match, but there sure isn't much about her out there.
