Boredom & Frustration shortened my Hunt today.

spent about an Hour at the 1875 school site today but
due to one Solid high tone, that sounded like a silver coin
but mixed in roots & too impossible to get a bead on with my
Garrett pinpointer caused me to get embarrassed by the look of the grass
as I worked at it,

So I ended up giving up on it after 20 - 30 Minutes
& packed it in for the day

Anyway, I came home with a 1 Cent Gas rebate

and my second mid 30's Babe Ruth Ring. this one adjusted to a Size 3







Maybe next time I'll find out if Silver coin or Iron is messing with me

I personally would be tickled to find a 1930s Babe Ruth ring. You need to start carrying a sawz-all with you for those big roots.

I had a similar situation with roots blocking the hole a while back. Returned a few days ago with better tools...turned out to be a clad dime...darn.

I have chased "something" around under roots that sounded good, had to give up out of time. When I went back next time, no signal what so ever! I was about to dig down and see if it was deeper in the hole when a whole bunch of people started coming in the park, Party of some kind, right where my target should have been! (Murphy's law/my life)
Had to let that one go!

Yea in some cases there is also the possibility of it being iron too,
& ground conditions playing havoc. but at this point, I need
to wait for the grass covering to look a bit un-disturbed before going at it again.
I really do not like when I can stand 5 feet away & see my diggin spot.
Maybe with my 6" coil & see if it changes things

I think you have the same problem I do. When a hole starts to turn ugly, I get so embarrassed at my ineptitude that I usually quit. Especially near roots.

At least you didn't do what I did once. After an hour long dig, I finally could see the barest glimpse of a silver edge. About the size of a dime. It was perched on a large root about a foot down. I tried to reach with my fingers and knocked it off the root and right into an unexpected hole in the ground! The opening in the roots I could see wasn't just a separation, it was a veritable CAVERN!!! I stuck my knife in and couldn't find the bottom! I took a stick and was able to measure almost THREE FEET!!!

I stopped, considered, looked around at the mess and that nobody had already seen this fool making such a mess. Then, I said a prayer, filled in everything and repaired to almost new the surface. Scratched R.I.P. in the dirt and left. LOL

Let us know if you figure out what it was in there.

the one I found years ago appears to held up better visually though.

I,ve conceded to more than one tree that refused when asked kindly to lift a foot off my prize. Have argued with roots that insisted they were silver also. Usually when they have a high moisture content and bleed if stabbed.

Well I'm on the mend from the back surgery. A little over a year out. But the knees are just getting old. Been working in maintenance for 20+ years and it taken its toll. That one reason I took up MDing. For the exercise.

well, I know if I didn't have a good pair of Rubber Knee pads,
I'd probably be worse off on the knees myself.

My biggest problem is, once I'm on my Knees getting up can be a chore.
I've been using a 18" Trowel for digging most spots.
something like this but probably allot narrower



and when I get down I use it like a cane to help push myself up
