Boston Scrap Party

Not a metal detecting find, but I thought some folks here might find this interesting.
I was looking through an April, 1942 Life magazine and came across an article about a Boston "scrap" party.they were donating everything to the war effort. I hope you can read the captions under the pictures.

I understand, and agree with the reasons, to scrap stuff for our war effort - but dang - so much history was lost...

I restore old bicycles. It’s amazing how many pre WW2 bicycles were scrapped for the war effort. Middle to late 30s bikes were hit hard. The most common prewar bikes are 1941 models. They were still new during the scrap drives and didn’t get scrapped. This is a restored 1941 Schwinn.

Fans, you say? Here's one that belonged tp my grandparents. I don't really know how old it is, they had it ever since I was a kid. I inherited it, it was all beat up and non-functional. I was able to restore it and repaint it, and now it works like brand new. Best fan I've ever used. I didn't think to take a "before" picture, but here's the after. My Dad says it never looked this good even back in his day.
