Hello, Rick . . .
I DO have a bottle question for you. See if you can identify this mystery bottle.
The bottle is embossed "N. S. P." on its sloping shoulder. It has a blow-pipe pontil scar and a rolled lip.

I'm certain that this bottle is American. Over the years, I have seen similar bottles with more-elaborate embossing. One of those bottles is H. LAKE'S INDIAN SPECIFIC.

A similar bottle appeared in Glass Works Auction #66 in October of 2003. The description reads:

372. "HOLME & KIDD", American, ca. 1840 - 1860, deep bluish aqua, 6 1/2"h, pontil scarred base, rolled lip. A very crude and very rare medicine bottle. Very similar to the famous H. Lake's Indian Specific bottle except considerably smaller.
(It sold for $210.)

A similar NSP bottle just sold (without identification) on a Glass Works Auction.

I bought my NSP bottle from Jim Hagenbuch back in 1989 off his table at the St. Pete show. But no one yet has identified the embossing.

I will search out more info on the embossing and let you know, the form is a cologne in my opinion for sure.

I recently looked at Meech's web page, and just checked it again. I believe what he is saying is that only the 7.5" bottle has the N.S.P. embossment. Meech is appropriately ambivalent about the contents of his N.S.P. bottle, even though he features it among his scent bottles.

Like you, I think of this bottle as a cologne; however, it's hard to ignore the fact that the two similar bottles I referenced - the ones with more elaborate embossing - are identified as medicine bottles.

Meech and I (and Jim Hagenbuch) would be grateful if your research turns up something on this bottle.

isn't the bottom a key hindge mold? I am not 100% but if not what ids the difference between what yours looks like an a key hindge mold?
