A newbie posted a question re: MD sounding off on Bottles. It got me curious. Since some bottles were made w/ Magnesium, etc, Would that allow a MD to sound off on it? I am not a Bottle Hunter, so I'm asking you Pro's who know! Thanks!
bottle hunters are usually seeking to find the bottle caps and wire and the other assorted metal scrap in a bottle dump. Can't see any glass alone setting of a detector unless maybe the cobalts. exanimo, ss
Seems like a bottle with manganese would only have a trace amount in it. Only bottles that have a gray tint to them have it. Clear glass bottles do not have manganese in them. I used to sit bottles out in the sun for years and they never turned amythest untill I found out only the gray ones turned. I now use a ultra violet light and they turn color over night.
If the newbie's MD went beep beep, there had to have been some metal somewhere. Maybe there was a piece of lead on the bottle lip, or his shoe was too close to the bottle. I mean these things are called METAL detectors for a reason. I have yet to see a GLASS detector, but I could sure use one!! The manganese angle is a logical one, but I just don't think it's possible to pack that much manganese into glass and have the properties of glass remain intact.
