I have had these for awhile now and need to know what you guys think of them. I think they are now tie axe heads, but can't find an example that fits them close enough to say for sure. Take a gander!!

I have several examples of this type artifact as well. Mainly made of green/black rhyolite, they are commonly referred to as "chipped axes". They come in the bowtie form you mention but are also found in other more traditional axe-like shapes. I've also picked them up in varying sizes from very large palm sized to small at an inch or two.

Thank you. I thought that they were bow tie but had some uncertainty.

They even made them from conch shell here in Florida. This is the only one I ever found they are rare but here is a little Guy.

NC - in your area I'd think those are Guilford axes, or a close relative at least. Do you ever find Guilford axes and if so how do you differentiate the pieces shown above from them? I know very little about your area (I live in Virginia now) so I apologize if this is wasting your time.

Thanks,
Joe

@ NC, those look real nice. I have never found one myself or bought one

My father has a guilford axe. He found it probably before I was born. Here is a pic.

No! You are not wasting my time! I hunt in VA. More than in NC. I live right on the line. About 20 min to Danville and South Boston. Are you on southern VA? If so, I can show you some nice spots around Kerr Lake.

That'd be great. You let me know the time and place and I'll meet you there!!!
