The problem isnt Unions persay... but the thuggery and corruption involved between unions and politics that is the problem. Most union workers are hard working honest americans but at the same time why do they use words such as "scab" and flatten the tires and threaten other non union workers who are also just hard working americans trying to earn a living? That part of unions is disgusting. Politicians making deals with american tax dollars to labor unions for votes is as corrupt as it gets that is also disgusting, no more or less than politicians from the other side taking lobbyist dollars for the same reason.
Our biggest problem again isnt unions but the way we collect tax dollars. You have need for minimum wages or have unemployment issues if we didnt tax jobs right out of america. Drop the corporate tax rate to 0 and see how many jobs come flocking back to the US that previously left along with all kinds of new jobs from other countries. Our issue is the government has their hands in every single detail... tax the guy making raw goods, tax business making raw goods, tax the guy buying raw goods and his business, tax the people who work for him, tax the retail store selling what the guy who bought raw goods made, tax the business retailing raw goods, then charge the buyer of finished product state sales tax........then on top of all these taxes require than every single one of these stepping stone business pay a minimum wage.
Point being we use to have a corner on the market of innovation in the world. Now there is competition. As in any other competition you either get bigger, better, faster, stronger, more efficient to compete or you lose.
The Definition of insanity is to continue doing what you are doing expecting different results. This is common sense. Come on Fair tax, Come on Herman Cain
I figured that would be your side of the comments.. everything that you've said to me before has come from the right wing however with that being said.. I applaud your ability to discuss the issues without resorting to name calling or getting angry as some discussions I've had with other right-wing leaning folk. You're in Georgia so it doesn't suprise me (it's a red state so my guess the majority there have similar opinions and that's fine we all have differences in our opinions on different issues). My aunt's husband is from Georgia and he's as GOP as they get.
You're focusing on the Unions getting involved with politics but you don't mention about greedy billionaires who run corporations who get involved with politics. Of the 10 top contributors of political money to politicians, only 3 belong to unions. In comparison to eachother, greedy corporations have much more of an advantage nowadays than unions. Unions in opinion is the lesser of the two evils. This isn't about wages, money, but a political war to destroy unions who typically support the democratic party. You don't mention about ENRON and their deep connections with Bush Jr. and how they caused my state CA billions. Slashing someone's tires in nothing compared to what large scam corporations like ENRON out there do to the rest of us. These are things Foxnews doesn't mention. Deregulation is bad.
Sure the government can be improperly run just like corporations can too. Some gov. agencies can be run efficiently run too. They're as good as the individuals running them. George Bush Jr. sending us to Iraq war and running up our debt isn't any different than some poorly managed company? The only difference is that the U.S. gov is non-profit unlike the private sector. The U.S. gov is supposed to protect its citizens from predatory people/companies. Regulation is the only way to do so. Why do you think there's an EPA or SEC? Can you imagine what happens if those agencies don't exist?
If it had to come down to it, I'm siding with unions no matter what rather than some greedy billionaire tycoon. Will some greedy billionaire like David Koch care about you? Hell No unless you're his adopted son.
Also no matter if people paid zero taxes period, you still can't compete with companies sending jobs to other countries. If companies pay workers in China $5K/yr, why would they come back? Better yet, they can move to Somolia and pay people there $.10/hr. Let me ask you how can you compete with that here in the states? The answer is simply "no" we can't. The only way I can see it is through education and developing innovation. However, not all of us are engineers or rocket scientists. The problem now is that education is cut also. Hate to say it folks, but our top standing in the world is falling and these greedy billionaires who want to run the government know it too but they don't care as long as they keep raking in billions more.
SHAME!! SHAME!! SHAME (not at you JD but the greedy billionaires (Koch bros) and politicians who cater to them)!!
Oh geez. First im not right wing. When I mentioned "the other side" referring to lobbyist and corruption I was speaking specifically about republicans who get in office and take handouts. When you say "greedy billionaires" you are just spouting talking points you hear from cnbc. The government wasnt going after billionaires when they talked of raising taxes on people making $200k a year. They were talking about small business owners. You can count the number of billionaires in this country with what

2 hands or less?? Half of my family belong to unions. Lockheed Marting, Electrical workers 252 i think is the local number etc and for the most part the unions do them fairly well but those are private sector jobs that create wealth compared to Government employee unions who get their money through tax dollars. I respect those folks up in WI. fighting for what they want, but what they want is unsustainable.
Here is where the hypocracy (sp chk) is. Democrats talk about "right wingers" not caring about common people and being greedy and in the same breath think it is ok that they themselves have a government union job and FORCE the same common people to pay their higher salaries, nearly free health care, and HUGE retirement and pension plans and its perfectly ok and its not greedy. Seriously? Right wing, left wing whatever.
Anyway you asked a question of me." Let me ask you how can you compete with that here in the states? The answer is simply "no" we can't. "Actually the answer is not a simple no or yes when you ask using the word HOW. Please read the book on the "Fair Tax." I will give you a quick run down so not to completely destroy this poor guys thread. How we compete with cheap labor by using the fair tax is simple economics. All taxes are gone entirely, every single one of them except a 23% sales tax when you purchase a NEW GOOD ONLY. This means you get your entire check weather you are dirt poor or a greedy billionaire. And if you dont want to ever pay taxes you dont have to just dont buy a new good or service. Rich people who spend the most money will still pay the most taxes. Poor people who pay no tax will be subsidized with a monthly check that takes into account what it would cost them to pay taxes on food and shelter. Now with their being 0 taxes from the get go that means no one is taxed on the entire path that an item is created till the point its sold. No one payed income tax either so the cost of these items goes down astronomically. At this point minimum wages are no longer a huge concern since goods and services are so much cheaper than they use to be and since you arent taxed from your paycheck before you get the chance to cover your living expenses like it is now. It allows people to keep the money they earned and then decide what luxuries they will buy and pay taxes on after the important pieces of life are payed for. Yes that requires personal responsibility but that is required now already. So now you have people bringing home their entire pay checks, the cost of goods shrinks incredibly which brings international buyers closer to your market and with 0 corporate income taxes businesses will be persuaded back to the U.S. Remember the other freedoms we have in this country is a major attraction as well.
Simple actual example-- I use to make fishing lures and wanted to market them. In the U.S it would have cost me about 1.20 per lure after i pay all the people along the way plus all the embedded taxes because I bought all the raw materials in the US. For me to have a small factory in china make those for me after shipping my cost was around .80 cents US if I remember right. I know the profit margin jumped a ton even with shipping fees and delays. Now you notice i wasnt moving to china. Well start taking away the income taxes the lure makers in the US had to pay, and the corporate taxes the business had to pay, and the unemployment taxes they had to pay and all the sudden my lures are getting cheaper to make over here especially after shipping costs are no longer so expensive cutting the mileage down by a few thousand haha. Point being i would have kept my business here IF IT WERE POSSIBLE.
But anyway I agree with ya on Bush. He was terrible with money. If Bush was terrible though

?? Where does that put Mr. O?
