I have been getting a lot of brand new looking 1967 halves as you can see in the picture. Out of a dream box last month (301 -40's) about 200 were like this. They have been dropping off but I got 13 out of the 17 40's out of a box today. I also got some 90's and more 40's out of my other box. I P/U $820 in handrolls at different banks and got 3 Ben's, 3 - 40's and a proof. Hope tomorrow's 2 boxes are as good.

Very nice score SF. I remember conversing in messages about your "dream box". I have never pulled that many from 1 box....that's incredible!!!

What do you think the story is on the new looking 40%'ers? Where do they come from? 200 sure is a load.

Congrats SF. Keep em coming................

Nice, nice nice! Sounds like an oppurtunity to squirrel away a BU roll of 67s.

I'm just not sure where they come from but I have a "few" rolls of them now.

Nice to see the Forum back to a lighter side. Those BU coins come from the older generation. They didn't have much money but could afford to save some coins. They are dying, need the money, or are wondering why they saved the things and are getting rid of them. Saw a little old couple sell a small tacklebox full of beautiful clad at a coin show recently. Those are some great finds!

My guess is that the BU's are just that.

Most if not all of the silver content JFK's have very slight wear. Remember JFK's were rushed into production only ran the first year at 90%. For the next 5 years @ 40% and those were the only coins being produced that had had any silver content in them.

They were a novelty right off the bat. I would imagine that a large chunk of them were taken out by folks back then and squirreled away between 1965 & 1970. just like the stupid state quarters and Pres. $ are being taken out of circulation today. Just to be spent like regular money or dumped by Widows or inheritors, or thieves.

My older brother ( a coin collector from the 60's ) told me that back in the mid 60's he bought rolls and rolls of half dollars and packed them away for years knowing they were the last silver coins produced. But as time passed he sold them off when he needed money. I think a lot of small hoards hit the banks today as guys like my brother die off and family members don't know what there worth. I fond a couple of full rolls of 40%'s and even 64 JFK's like that in hand rolls over the last 3 years. My brother is 65 now and he was in his 20's in the mid 60's. Coin horders from that time may have died off, or, are dying off every day, and for years to come. So expect to keep finding these type of coins for years untill you die I guess.

I haven't found many unc. Franklin's (except 63's) or Walking Liberty's as those were circulated heavily I would imagine. They were considerd normal.

No surprise or mystry to me why you got unc. 67's

CRH Mojo.
