Anyone know what the usage might have been for this brass item. Coin below found near by is a 1863 Indian One Cent helps give size. House dates back to 1840. Was a Sea Captain's home that was built on the site of a much earlier home. I don't believe it'd related to reins guides? Maritime maybe? Also a stamped Latten spoon bowl that probably dates back well before the 1840 house.

Many Thanks for any input! Bill

Thanks, I think this was a reins/terret guide that was altered for another use. It is not broken. Has smooth finished edges. But It is the same size as other brass reins guides I have found. I just have never seen a open reins guide.

Thanks!
