I found this metal detecting at a house in Townsend, MA that was built ca. 1790. I've tried to identify it, but had no luck. Having trouble even knowing what to search for. Only markings are on the inside: XOX, and the O has a small 's' inside (see picture below). There's also a peg on the inside opposite the XOX. XOX means hugs and kisses, right?



The first picture is the front, the second is the back (quarter for scale). Third picture shows the inside of this "clasp" with the markings XOX with an 's' in the O. Any ideas or clues would be greatly appreciated.
