Found this in the yard yesterday, all brass except for maybe the round knob. Has the letters MLC (may be a G) stamped on the back. Moves (or used to) in two places on the latch part. Any ideas on what it is and or what it was used for? Thanks for the help.

Ok I know what points are, but I dont think so. Had to be a big engine. About 6" long and pretty heavy.
If it is points to an engine, would it be a miss fire engine?
I really thought it was a latch :-\.

???Really think it is some sort of latch it is really heavy 2-3 lbs and is made of brass. Maybe off of some sort of old ice box or horse buggy, delivery unit? handle pulls the latch thing up and back ad the latchy part also moves. No clue really.

I'd be tickled if it was! Not sure, the part you would think is the "tapper" moves also?
