Found this at an old house site. Kinda looks like a latch for a chest or something.

A couple of pics from different angles would help.
I'd like to see the back and the side, I'm having trouble visualizing how it attached to the piece to be locked. :icon_scratch:

Unfortunately, it still doesn't look familiar and I've found a lot of brass furniture hardware, but this one is a mystery.
It has the look more of a decorative piece, as opposed to an actual lock plate to me. :icon_scratch:

Hopefully someone here will recognize it for you.

Maybe a book hasp?

Agreed... Although searches may yield with the word "hasp" replaced with "clasp"... which is what they are called.

I agree with it being a book clasp. Sounds to me like it's a clasp for a bible from the 1800s, according to some research. Thank you for the help!
