Brass piece found at civil war site

This was the very first item I found at a civil war site we hunted recently. It is brass and measures 1" wide and 1" tall and the hole is tapered large to small towards the top. The top of the wide piece has a thin rim around it. Everything is smooth. There are no threads and it is all one piece.

It reminds me of a top to a very old brass plumb bob.

This may be a stretch.......
The end off a giadon like the one in your avatar. Slides on the "bottom" of the staff and rests on the carrier's belt. :dontknow:

Looks like the inside part of a garden hose nozzle/sprayer.
