Looks like crusades type crosses in each indention.

Found at civil war site

Cover from something, Maltese crosses. Is it tin ?? Doesn't really look like brass.

it's brass, just has a brown patina like the other brass relics I found in the area.

I guess that depends

if you want it to be a watch chain, or a suspenders buckle, you can always keep looking too

I can't picture a pocket watch hanging from eight or ten of those strung together, but that's just me
