🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Brass piece

Any ideas on what this is? Found near Richmond va on a 1850-1980 homesite. It’s brass, ~4” long overall. The “head” of the item is roughly size of a quarter

My first thought was part of a hinge from a fireplace tong, but I can't find anything close.

My level of deduction increases and decreases with Rum intake usually...
but in this case it is naturally occurring.

And whit that... i will say my first impression of your find was part of some sort of handle.
