I found this brass piece yesterday on a homesite that is app. 100 years old. This piece is solid brass and has some machining on it that even today, would be hard to reproduce. It is kind of smooth on the bottom like it slid on something. It has a marking of 49 on the top with a type of marking behind the 9. I'm thinking something related to textile machinery but it's just my guess. Thanks in advance for your help. Happy Digging!!

That was my first thought - some sort of presser foot off an old sewing machine.

It looks like it has both, a guide for a strand of cotton and a blade for cutting the cotton line - to my eyes two, too.
