Brass Springy Thingy...What is it???

I was going through some of my old finds and came across this brass tube with a spring mechanism that I found in an old park in MA.? The slanted tip is attached to a internal spring mechanism.? It is approximately 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.Any thoughts

BostonMetal, I am honestly just guessing here, but for some reason, I was thinking something from a locking mechanism. It just reminds me of some internal part to a doorknob or lock, but I'm not sure. Good luck IDing it!
