Looking for ideas on the 2" square brass tag. The font looks old. It's seems too large for a tool tag and the hole looks too small for a livestock ear tag. Also the square corners should rule out an ear tag. Found in a coastal county in Texas.

Is it leather? 1925-1950 type face(not technically a font). Machine cut, so maybe using the old lettering deliberately- even very recently? Could be for a key chain

Let's get this clear...it is brass, it has older type numbers, looking like second half of 1800s up until 1900, it has an old nice patina....cool find, cant say more except that I have done.

I have seen numbered brass tags on power/telephone poles so that could be a possibility.
