Found this on an old farm. A heavy piece of brass with a half keyway in it. On each side of the keyway is a 3. Anyone know what this is?

Well it looks like I stumped everyone. I talked to the farmer nextdoor to where we found this object. He said it's a toe weight. His father raised race horses. The weight was added to the hoof of the horse to stabilize and strengthen the horses gate as they ran. I also found a copper tag that says Happy Warrior on it. He said that was his dad's lead horse name. It brought a big smile to his face. It was from around 1950. I was honored with many stories about the farm, his father and their racing history. This farmer is now 84 and in a wheelchair. I gave the tag to him and he gave us permission to detect around his home from 1749. We are checking it this morning but we are on vacation and leaving this afternoon. If we find good stuff we will be staying a day longer.

Interesting as I have found at least one of those over the years myself. Thanks for the post.

I may have to have my username changed to happy warrior. We were rained out this morning. Will have to detect the old house next time we visit our friends in Maryland.

Nice! I too learned something I had never seen or heard of before.

Who knew you had to balance your horses hooves?

Good on you for giving the tag to the farmer & listening to his many stories.

Now that is a very cool recovery and ID-great day as learning something by mug #2 is a winner.
Looks familiar though and now I'm scratching the memory. :laughing7:
