Hello everyone!

For the last few years I've set a goal to dig 100 silver coins for the year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) In 2007 I dug 68 ~ in 2008 I dug 104 ~ and in 2009 I dug 102. I do NOT count War nickels as silver coins, but I'll count a foreign coin as long as it contains atleast 50% silver (War nickels are only 35% silver).

As some of you already know that hit my goal for 2010 on July 29!! It took me just a little less that 7 months! Here's a break down:

50 Mercury dimes (including one micro "S" 1945)
34 Rosie dimes
6 Washington quarters ('37 to '51-D)
1 Standing Liberty quarter (dateless "D" mint ~ silver coin #100!!)
1 Barber quarter (1902-S)
3 Walking Liberty Halves ('39-S, '43, & '43-S)
2 Barber Halves ('07-D & '12-D)
3 Canadian Silver dimes ('51, '53, & '63)

There's nothing here that's too exciting ~ but I'm real pleased with the 2 Barber Halves (1907-D & 1912-D)!!

Other notable coin finds: 2 1910-s wheat cents, 1913-S wheat cent, 5 Indian Head cents (1890, 1892, 1897, 1902, & 1903), 2 buffalo nickels (dateless and 1920), and 12 War nickels.

More info:
Rosie dime mints = 20 "D", 13 "S", and only 1 "P"
Merc dime mints = 27 "S", 18 "P", and only 5 "D"

It will be interesting to see what else I manage to dig up by Dec. 31!

THANKS FOR LOOKING!
Neil

Wow! :headbang: :hello2: What a great collection! Those barber halves are extremely hard to find, way to go! Just curious, 2 years ago I found my 1000th silver coin. How many more till you reach that milestone? ...

Thanks man!

1000 silvers?! WOW ~ that's AWESOME!! Not quite there myself . . . . I think I'm at like 450 or 460 total.

I've still 1.5 months to catch up with ya. I reached 83 silver coins for this year. But this year I've got 95% of them sterling and 50% of them biggies, like florins and shillings.

Congrats on the achievement! I do count my war nickels in my silver coin count and I don't think it's cheating even if they are only 40% silver. I've only found 4 though so they don't make up a big proportion of my finds this year.

Also, I'm amazed you haven't found a barber dime with all the other great coins you've dug. I'm sure there's one on the horizon soon!

Anyway, great finds and happy hunting.

Yeah, I just noticed that too! I haven't dug a Barber dime since Nov of 2009 ~ and I dug 5 Barber Dimes in 2009 ~ and 6 in 2008! None so far in 2010 ~ WEIRD!!

Thanks Arthur!

Yeah, there's a few factors to it I guess . . . . . new machine (MineLab ETrac) and it is awesome! And I do go out often. I scan the ground and then I'll re-scan it at a different angle ~ go LOW and go SLOW!!

not much to say that hasnt already been said! what a roll your on-congrats!

Dats alot of silver. Congrats.

Congrats..love those Barber halves and all the other silver.

What was the most silver you found in one hunt this year?

I really wish I had more time to hunt...last month I found 15 silvers and that was a really good month for me. The wife started working Saturdays so now we only have Sundays for both of us to spend time with the kids. When it comes to detecting or family time the family wins everytime... :icon_thumleft:

THANKS!

The most silvers that I found in one hunt was 9 ~ and that was just a few weeks ago in Idaho. I got to hunt two days while we were there for my neice's wedding. The first hunt I dug 6 silvers (Barber Half, 3 Merc's and 2 Rosies) ~ and the second hunt I dug 9 (1944 25c, 7 Merc's and 1 Rosie dime). I dug a total of 15 silvers in 6 hours of detecting ~ plus 23 wheats, 1890 IHC, 2 War nickels, a 1920 Buffalo nickel, and plenty of clad too!

8^)

Wow...It sounds like you were on some pretty good sites in Idaho. The most silver I had in one hunt was 4 (all mercs) but it was only an hour hunt so I felt really good about it. Lately I've been finding two silver pocket spills...Two 1917 SLQs a week or so ago then two 1936 Mercs yesterday.

Happy hunting
