I found an escutcheon at a site that I have been detecting for a while, and it's marked with a crown and GR. I'm having a hard time finding any information on it, as most are marked with Regiment numbers. I saw someone post that the crown and GR escutcheons are from British Officer's flintlocks. Anyone know if that's correct?
The same day I dug the escutcheon, I also found a ram rod holder, broken snake buckle, and some musket balls.

The escutcheon and ram pipe are cool relics

Nice finds especially the escutcheon. Could you post a picture of the back side? That might help. I'm trying to figure out how it would attach since there are no visible holes in it. If there are/were tangs on the back it was probably a saddle or saddle bag adornment.

You're over virgin soil with that many relics coming to the surface. How deep were most of your targets??
Congratulations on your finds.

Nice finds. Welcome to the site!

These typically have a stud on the back similar to the shank on an old cast flat button. it would set in a small mortise in the stock and be locked in with a small pin through the stock and the hole in the stud

Great selection of relics, you're onto a really good producing site. Congrats

That escutcheon is a beauty. I have a similar one but smaller, probably a pistol, and not markings. Yours is stellar!
