Well we got out to two very beautiful spots today. The first was a large field behind an 1831 house. The day was beautiful. It started out at 29 degrees this morning and ended up in the low sixties. Had to shed clothes during the day. Rick found a great old hand forged hatchet and a very unique spike. I located a nice harness rosette, button and buckel. We also came up with a Yankee Dance Tap, an on-off REO ignition switch (I guess there is a REO Speedwagon), a brass ring that was gold plated, and some other items. The second spot was overlooking the mountains and Caspian Lake. There was not much there, but it sure was beautiful.
The day ended with fine cigars and cheap beer, What could be better...
To answer some of the questions from yesterday.
John, the bells were typically used on sheep, goats and cattle.
Sherm, Rick will be here for five days.
Mainedigger - Those are cloak weights that were used to keep coats, dresses and other clothing from blowing up in the wind.
Texan Connection - I find that the iron objects hold up pretty well, even in the wet soil. It is really important to protect them once they are out of the ground, they rust much quicker in the air.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. Thanks for looking, Lance and Rick
