I'm surprised that no one ever covered Blood, Sweat & Tears. Although some may consider them a wannabe Chicago, this was a jazz/rock, or jazz/blues band that did make some great music.

The first song is a classic example starting with blues and going into jazz.

I thought Chicago was a wannabe BS&T. Brother Nat, who played shows with them in his former hippie rock star life, said they were the most disgusting stuck up prima donnas he'd ever met, so maybe that's why no one covered them.

RGINN, although both were primarily horn bands Chicago for the most part were rock with some blues.. And you're right BS&T had the jazz element that Chicago could never reproduce.

Both had outstanding vocalists too Clayton-Thomas with a great blues voice and Peter rocked, rock
