Went out yesterday for four hours of digging nothing but shotgun shell butts, aluminum can pull tabs, bottle caps, assorted iron, fishing sinkers, what was becoming a frustrating day suddenly became exciting. Out of the hole King George III. It was the only coin of the day I didn't even find any clad.

Don in Brewster helped with the ID.

1776 Machins Mills 6-76A

Made in Newburgh New York in the 1780s

How fitting to find the 1776 date on the day before the Fourth of July.

Enjoy and happy hunting

Two banners in such a short period of time.
We have to get together soon.
Maybe some of that GOOD LUCK will rub off onto me.
Congrats Big Time!!

Now about fighting those British during The Civil War,,,,,

Cool find; congrats. I lived in the area of the Machin Mills. Here's the historical sign.

Thanks for sharing that photo! I should take a ride out to that site, I live about 40 minutes from Newburgh.

Thanks Kevin.... Get on that bike and come visit.

Wonderful find! I'm a big fan of counterfeit coppers, and yours is amazing. I don't have any references, but yours must be extremely rare at a minimum.

I'm going to go ahead and say this is a Banner coin and my vote is going in. It's much rarer than some of the other, ahem, stuff up there.

Steve

Thanks Steve... I'm excited about the find and how it cleaned up. Last couple of coppers I found were pretty toasted. HH

really great find - vp

Well done sir! You have had a really good year, so far.

I can hardly wait to see your next find. GL!

Thanks Tom, I've been very fortunate this year, hope it keeps going. 8-)

Nice one for the collection just in time for a Little King George III whooping anniversary!

Good one. Would love to dig a MM!

NICE FIND - TH'ers don't realize that most of the coppers found are counterfeit by one company or another - I have a bunch of counterfeits - some are made with zinc added and are very light and read like junk - they get toasty more because of the zinc content---LC read like 76 -- "copper" below it read like a 32
