Found this buckle last week and some guys at a local hunt thought it may be war of 1812 or older, any help ID'ing would be appreciated. Also any ideas on how to clean, ther seems to be 5 stars above the eagle under the dirt and maybe more something to it's right.

nice find , not sure about the age of the buckle . joined T Net in Oct 2007 and only have 4 posts , must be a mistake :icon_scratch:

Wish I could help.....need to put in the "What is it" forum. Congrats and good luck on your ID.:hello:

looks older than civil war but i'm not an expert. seen some similar in style but not sure. What state did you find it? It would kind of help

nice find, i've been looking and having some trouble finding your buckle. I would definitely say pre-civil war, possibly 1812 or before since the round hooks on the back were only used until the 1820s or so (correct me if I'm wrong). most of the 1812 era buckles I have seen online have had the same style hooks as yours, but there are more examples of oval shoulder plates and not belt buckles.

Cool looking buckle.................Hmmmmmmmmmm.............HH

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but my guess would be 1820's - 1830's militia

I've cleaned it up a little more and there are 7 stars across the top and a sun coming over some mountains, the sun looks like it has eyes and a nose on it. Have to wait till the weekend for my daughter to come over and take new pics.
