Detector(s) used
White's Spectra V3i
With below freezing temps for several days and snow on the ground I'm afraid my Husband's detecting days are over for this year. Its gonna be a LONG winter.
Anyway....here are his latest finds.
I thought this was a pretty good example of a Half cent.
The buckle is plated & cleaned up nice. Not sure what type of buckle it is.
He thought the weird hunk of silver was a rock @ first but no, its definitely not a rock. Its strange indeed. Personally I think its a piece of......DON'T LAUGH.....meteorite.

Nice finds...not sure if it is a meteorite but I believe there is a meteorite section on this forum you may want to post pictures there. Most Universities will have open house days in their science departments where you can bring different things in for identification..

Good luck

Good to know. Thanks

Really nice shoe buckle

Is the green on the half-cent corrosion/pitting or just removable surface material? It really is in nice shape. I'm often astounded over the amazing condition of some coins -- after being buried for 200 years.

He's making some killer finds :headbang: Very well done.........cheers :coffee2:

Nice half cent, hope you have a space rock.

Beautiful half cent.

Can you post a picture showing the pin terminals on that buckle? If it is a shoe buckle, it is very unusual to see the curvature along the short leg of the rectangle. Here is an illustration to show you what I mean by pin terminals.

Your right, never looked closely, until you pointed it out, it's curved the wrong way for a shoe buckle :icon_scratch:

Here is a pic of the pin terminals. My husband guesses because of their location, this may be a breech buckle. ???

That is an odd one :icon_scratch:

The pin terminal location and curvature fit the profile of a knee buckle, but's it's way too big for a knee buckle. It also doesn't have the reinforcement around the pin terminals that you usually see on shoe and knee buckles. It does look colonial though.

It is strange, way to big for a knee/breech buckle.

Maybe a Hat Buckle :icon_scratch:

Yes, looks like a Pilgrim hat buckle. :sign13:
