I found this buckle a few years back, but a similar one was posted about a week ago. I can't find the post now, but it sparked my interest so I searched through my buckle bin and "dug it up" again.

I never really looked that closely at it when I found it, figuring it is an early 20th century civilian button. It has obviously survived some forest fires, but upon closer examination I noticed there was a back mark on the buckle. I gave it a nice peroxide treatment to try to remove some of the dirt.

I am having trouble with the back mark, but it may be "US" Anyone have any idea what these convex shaped buckles were for? Military??

It's actually a buckle cover for a harness buckle. They are post civil war and evidently some are military and some not. I don't know much about them and can't help you with the marking.
