Found this at an old cellar hole last month. not sure of the age of the site... the newest coin was 1841. Bronze/ brass 2" long. Looks military? Any ideas??

I see what you mean about looking military with the chevrons at end. I don't see any evidence of a tongue so I'm guessing it is a strap adjuster/slider. There's no reason to think this is a military piece. Maybe horse equipment?
