I have spent the last two weeks planing a day of detecting with gene from bounty hunter detectors
He was coming to my area to give a training session to employees of a store that was adding metal detectors to their line
At first I was going to take him to the field’s that I have been finding coins and buttons from the late 1700 to the mid 1800’s
While going over my maps that I use to record the locations of my finds
I decided that maybe I could do a door knock and get permission for an old farm house and property that was adjacent to the field
I quick check of the tax maps gave me all the information I needed to make the contact one call and permission granted
The date of the farm house was 1770 with 3 out buildings still standing
It had been a light rain for the first 3 days of the week giving the ground a good soaking and yet allowing the top to dry out just a bit
so i was hopping for some great finds
well it turned out that the property to be less then oh shall we say good
the only finds by gene was a ih that had been shot with a 22
i did fair a little bit better with an lc when the light is just right you can read 1803
and the find of the day was a great police button dating from 1860 to 1870
