I was in the Jamestown, CA prospecting shop today, quizzing Bryant for info. He said to put burlap over the carpet but under the expanded steel. We discussed it and we cuncluded that three layers of burlap would replace the carpet. Get the loose weave stye instead of the tight bag. The loose weave is about equivalent to about an 8 mesh classifier. I will be trying it soon. TTC

Very Interesting, another bit of grey matter used for good purposes! Have fun...............63bkpkr

Hi Terry,
Would the weave you are talking about be the same as say a potato sack or whats called a gunny sack?

I don't know, B H. I am not familiar with them. The loose weave cab be looked through but the tight bag cannot. Coffee beans are the best source of the tight bag. A local coffee house probably would give them away! I have made a few Ghillie suits with them. TTC

Terry making gillie suits are so much fun but so much work were you what I like to call a shadow fighter in the corp?

Hahahaha talk about digressing into ancient ways. Convalution is not the solution, as every layer of added "stuff" reduces the riffle height and loses ya more gold-I go forward not backwards-minimize and profit.....in ancient Greece the first sluice was a lambs wool so lets all go kill some sheep :dontknow:John

Lol why not just shave the wool off like most farmers would do today

"That's classified, Chief." Martin Sheen Apocalpse Now (My favorite flik). No, not classified. Actually, while in a Combined Action Group I Corp, we had the villagers make them for us then we used them for ambushes. If you know what a ghillie suit is, you KNOW how effective they are. John, the burlap is put down first, under the expanded steel that is then laid down, Under the riffle board. By leaving each layer of burlap unconnected to the others, separating the gold during washing will be easier than the carpet setup. TTC

I use 3 layers of burlap under my miners moss. Clean what i can, dry it out, then burn it... pan the ashes after a 6 week run.

O ok would it work if you super glue it or sew it onto something maybe

i sure do but i remember it took me awhile to look and research my areas vegatation i forget the actual numbers isnt it suppose to be 85% veg and 15% synthetic does that sound right personally the hardest part for me was trying to get the color of the dye right for the burlap

The making of a ghillie suit is a very personal enterprise. More grasses, more stringy. More leaves, more solids pieces. As the north Viets would walk south, they would use a suit made of the indigenous vegetation. As they moved to different cover, they would "swap out" the old for the new. Synthetic is a modern part of the suit. What you use is what will work. Spray paint is a way to duplicate colors today. If a person steps on you before seeing you, you have accomplished building a good suit! The suit does not have to precisely duplicate the backround, just fool the brain into thinking it is the backround. TTC

i like to let mud get into it too if you use light wait mesh to make it itll only add weight

Tnx for the clarification. I don't practice much these days. Getting difficult to consider killing anything with 4 feet or wings. The adreniline rush just isn't there anymore. A lifetime of preparedness has made me ready for the 2 legged critters, though! TTC

I do never prepared enough
