Hey y'all. Found this butt plate from a colonial plantation site. I can take more pictures if needed but it is very heavy brass. It measures about 5 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide. On the back you can see a stamp, which I hope will help. Thanks!

Hard to get the stamp, but it looks a lot like a "broad arrow", the British mark for military equipment. If so it may well be from a Brown Bess but I am sure others will chime in with more knowledge.

Stef, your photos don't show the upper end of your musket buttplate. That is the location of what is called the buttplate's tang, which is a narrower projection of that end of the buttplate. The tang's shape is an important ID-clue. Even if it I broken off, the width of the tang's stub (and whether or not there's a screwhole in it) could tell us something.

Thanks CBG. Heres a link to my main post. Has more pics of the butt plate. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...tish-coming-first-rev-war-button-cw-more.html
