I found several in the same area but were smaller,any help would be great.

That's off a band instrument as I was told (not sure which instrument). I suspect a marching band was in the particular location?
I found a couple of the same in an old football field.

I have a feeling that it might be from the non adjustable end of the tensioner rod on a percussion instrument (like snare drum) but I could never find anything similar.

When I find those I attributed them to automobile radio knobs.

Looks like a top of a trumpet knob. Is the center piece threaded???
Usually Silver plated brass.

Ya the center piece is threaded,its as large as a quarter.
