If they put 'New York' on the back, it's probably post-1900.

Yea they started buttons in 1870.But the sinched belt around the out side I see on alot of British badges a sorts.So would not surprise me to be british in nature. :icon_scratch:

Your exact one is not there but theres little doubt left what it is for me.Just the site don't go much up in newer type button then the late 1800's.Here is the one closes to yours & you can see info on it.

Buttons used to have the same pattern for quite a while. The button in British database your linked has a different manufacturer. The one in question was made by JR Gaunt and according to several sources that company opened their branches in the New World (New York and Montreal) already after 1899. However, the history of the company isn't quite clear.

Thanks for all the info guys! We found the button about 30 min. After we started detecting. We found a old house back in the woods behind our house, it has no indoor plumbing and no road or trails leading to it. We plan on doing a little privy digging also.
