Button I.D.

can anyone help with any info on a button i found at a local park
It says on the back "standard colour" and has a crown and on the botom it says trehle gilt. I put a quarter next to it for size comparison. the front is smooth and i believe it is either copper or bronze.
any help info would be appreciated.

Nice button, Ken! It's a British-made civilian coat button and dates from the early 1800's. "Standard Colour" and "Treble Gilt" (triple plated) are what collectors call "quality backmarks" and refer to the button's gilt finish. The base metal looks as if it's probably copper, although brass was often used.
