Well, I finally got to test out the DFX today. I only had about 45 minutes, so I ran up to the local school to test out the different settings.
I found plenty of clad, and I also dug this 2 piece button. My gut feeling is that it is a modern coat button, but I figured I better post it just the same. The back is gone, so I have no idea if there was a backmark. It appears to be brass and was a solid 23 on the VDI. It was about 3.5 inches deep. The land was once farmland, going back at least to the 1750's, possibly earlier. My oldest finds from this farmland, which includes my property, are about 150 years old.
The closest I could find was the Coat of Arms for the Netherlands (shown). THe orignal settlers were Dutch in this area, however there is no way this button dates back that far.
Can someone help on the ID? Is it old, or modern?
