His item was dug on a property with activity dating back to the 1700's. It is 22.95mm in diameter. The only markings I've been able to find are the letters PI at the 6 o'clock position on the back. Zoom in on the first photo to see the letters. Any help with timeframe/era or type would be appreciated.

Hmm, zooming in on the front I'd swear there was something there too... Perhaps a number in the center, perhaps a 6, of which the circular part kinda' stands out.

It looks like a late 18th century brass flat button. Most buttons of this were typically unmarked until the very early 1800's. There is a chance that this button still has gilt under-neath the surface corrosion, so clean carefully. It is most likely civilian, but there is a tiny chance some poor militia could have used it. Great Find!
