✅ SOLVED Button or grommett?

Dug this one today at a site that was settled in the 1840s and had military presence here during the 3rd Seminole war..... any thoughts on this, it appears that one side has rusted away while the other side has a wreath design and a star..The hole in it made me think grommet, but why a fancy design.....never seen that on a grommett. Soooo what was it.? Thanks for any input, it is a very nice patina on brass with iron back or is that the front?
