Thanks! Searching "lead filled rosette" has brought up lots of similar items. Most of which seem to date to Civil War era. Would you agree?

Grant, what's the diameter? Most rosettes that I have found tend to be approx. 2" or so in diameter. Based on the pic in your hand this looks to be the case.

My fingers are fat, and based on the positioning on your fingers, it measures only about 1.5 inches and the back looks wrong for a rosette to me.

Your fat fingers are correct. IT measures exactly 1.5 inches in diameter.
