Looks like a Civil War era general service eagle button to me.

Nice button I love finding old millitary buttons. Ithink buttons are underrated I enjoy finding them more than finding coins

Looks to be an 1850's US Infantry eagle button (I think I see the I in the shield).

Nice find - what is the backmark as it will help date the button more.
