Button??

Found this brass piece on CW battlefield near the Colonial Virginia area and was wondering if anyone has seen it. I was thinking maybe a piece to a 20th century watch fob button...but Maybe Colonial or something else? If you would be so kind as to help me ID this piece, anyone that has found something similar, i'd be appreciative.

Well, nobody has responded to your question yet, so I'll say something about your thingy. I doubt it's a button because of the rectangular holes in it. What it is doesn't ring any bells for me. Could be a part to something bigger, and if it's old it could be something we today are unfamiliar with. I'm going to say that this thing may remain a mystery. Hang onto it because someday you might find out it's the only whatzit ever made. LOL

Could be any one of these things. But I will say this, if you look closely at it, it looks as if two triangular notches have been 'cut' into the edge and I do know that they use to do this to sew buttons on....It is a mystery, everything that has come off of this land has been no older than 19th century though. It looks to be made of brass. Could be off of a saddle or horse rigging. I dont know. Did go back this past weekend and found a nice buckle stamped "1854." It is cool, will post when I get a chance.
