Is this the front part of a button? I can post a better photo if need be

Looks like a button to me.

And it looks like a Mexican eagle.

(It's pretty damaged, but it appears to be an eagle crouching over a snake in it's talons, ala the Mexican flag)

Thanks! It is very damaged but that does look right. Here's another shot of the back

I believe its American. I believe this because the eagle is holding the spears that many American eagles hold. It's not holding a snake like a Mexican snake.

Notice the evident snakes in the eagles mouth.

Good call, and a good info in your posts. Thank you. I still haven't found much

Neither have I. I did some looking but came short. Hopefully someone can help. But nice find, definitely a good old military related button in my book!

Actually, look closer at the foot & beak position, then look at the snake under the foot. Its there but very faint going from the foot to mouth.

Good eye CRUSADER, I see it too, the eagle is perched on one leg, the other leg is up with the snake being grasped by the talons.

I think most US Eagles are in the spread eagle position.

Good Eye CRUSADER. I suppose it could be a snake. The eagle does look more like the Mexican eagle but what is still getting me is those spears. I cannot find anything that like except among American Examples. What do you think? Very early design, I'm not sure.
Coat_of_arms_of_Mexico.svg.webp By the way, this eagle very much resembles the one on the button, just no spears.

Those aren't spears or arrows, what you see IMO are lines from the worn out cactus.
