Its a one piece button with a cast shank. Its made the old style but my guess is modern. But I could be wrong. Is it pot metal?

Im sorry its called a "drilled shank" It was cast all in one piece. If you google "drilled shank button" or "drilled shank" button, you will see other examples. But I think yours is modern that was made to look old. I dont know what the letters mean.

I was thinking it was I.S., from the IHS, roughly meaning Jesus Savior on Christian stuff... But That was just a guess, and I can't find the pairing of the two things on a button, so...
