✅ SOLVED Any idea what this is?

I found this a couple of days ago in a field next to an early 1800's farmhouse. It appears to be brass, and the right side is broken. Found it a couple of feet from a minie ball.

Trigger guard ?

I thought it was a trigger guard at first, but couldn't match it up with any trigger guard pictures that I had.

Is that short end broken off?

Yes, the short end is definitely broken off.

That's the back end of a spur.

Is the long end broken off, or is it smooth and rounded?

After looking at it again, the long end appears to be broken off just like the short end. It for sure is not smooth and rounded.

Then IMO as Spats ID'ed it being part of a spur, I say from the size a child's spur. With a screen name like Spats I'm sure he's the expert on footwear and apparel.
