Buttons and a cool pull tab

I found my first ever flat buttons today, Also found this copper button with four holes. I dug up this neat pull tab. I have never seen one like it before, it looks like a vintage tab. I don't care for tabs but I will be keeping this one! :icon_pirat:

I have the same tab as well.. did some research and found that it is the first type of pull tab made.

I am old enough to remember those tabs. I have only found one as they weren't used for long.
Rumor was, there were more than a few thumbs sliced by that style tab so the ring-style tab was created.
I am just guessing but I believe that style tab was around 1964 or so in manufacture.
Probably off by twenty years too.

I dug a tab like that too. It was right in the middle of a field.

Yeah, they were used 1962-1964. Here are some related pics. I haven't found many, but probably have about 20 that I have found detecting.

Interestingly enough....this type of pulltab was only made for a very very short time. It was called a dogbone tab. I have never found one, but it's cool to know they were made.

Well it wouldn't be so cool if there were a 100 bazillion of them around. :blob7:

But yeah, that is sorta cool.

The one thing that surprises me though, is I don't remember ever seeing one. You would of thought I might of when my brother (and everyone elses brother) collected beer cans. I remember seeing a lot of empty cans with their pull tabs intact.

Congratulations Joe! It looks like your finally on an old spot bud. The flats are definitely mid 1800's. Keep going back, I'm willing to bet there is some good stuff there :icon_thumleft:
