Totally amazing day … little bits of metal pot, strange thing with a hole in it(?.) some pottery we picked up on the surface, a huge rock that looks like a basset hound, (which I insisted we took home 😂) and some nails, chain and other bits oh yes, 2 buttons one with a deer on it which is truely lovely x

Nice finds. Really like the deer button, but most curious about the longer object with the 2 holes. Looks maybe brass? Have you identified it?

They most certainly, and literally do, best dogs ever IMO… can you see it in the rock shape? Sitting down with its snout in the air?? …. Or is it just my eyes 😂😂

Love that deer button! I do see the Bassett! I'm glad I'm not the only one to bring home interesting rocks!

The deer/stag button is a Livery button, went on the servants uniform in the 1830s

The above is Livery Button is attributed to the Surname 'Scott', looks very similar.
Hmm that is interesting… i spend a lot of time looking at old census records for the area, and haven’t come across a Scott… will do some more research.
thank you x (I think you need to come detecting with us it would be like having an encyclopedia in our pocket 😁) x

Forgot to add, looks like maybe 1 more bit of Roman pot rim & a possible Roman Nail, so you not far off some Roman activity. If you don't already start gridding & using sticks or flags to move over as you grid.

Are you get much melted Lead? (you need to on a Roman Site)

we have more melted lead than you can shake a stick at… i Try to grid, but himself is not keen, and likes to free roam. I have proved to him the benefit of gridding, but he won’t be told, so we compromise, 75% we grid 25% I let him off to roam free.

we thought the pot bits looked like the previous one you said could be! Same weight nd texture, Roman Nail? Really which one? x

Second one down from the top of picture & the smaller one in the middle. (Roman Nails?)

Your never be very successful unless you do large area grids in the right areas. Roaming is for scouting the hotspots & nothing else. I'm so programmed now, its very hard to wander.
